The Tummy Tuck

February 26th, 2006

As mentioned in a previous article, the tummy tuck is a form of liposuction alternative which requires surgery. The tummy tuck is quite simply an operation to remove excess fat and skin from the stomach. Note though, the tummy tuck typically isn’t an operation in itself to reduce an individuals weight. It is only usually done after significant weight loss to improve an individuals appearance. A tummy tuck also somewhat tightens the abdominal wall muscles. A perfect candidate for a tummy tuck is someone who is the correct weight for there height, which is why its important to have a healthy diet and exercise regime before undertaking the operation.

This liposuction alternative is very serious and should not be undertaken without great consideration. It requires the removal of skin and fat tissue and has all the risks of any other type of surgery including blood loss, time for the skin for heal and recovery time.

It may sound like quite a simple form of liposuction alternative surgery but it isn’t. The surgeon has to remove excess skin and fat often from stretched skin from pregnancy etc. then the abdominal muscle walls are tightened up with sutures.

As mentioned this is a drastic liposuction alternative and should be treated as one. Many patients are required to stay in hospital for at least three days after an operation. In addition to this most patients end up with minor scarring horizontally along the abdomen and also around the belly button.

A Brief Introduction To Liposuction Alternatives

February 26th, 2006

There are two types of liposuction alternatives, those that involve surgery and those that dont. I’ve included a brief of both types of liposuction alternatives below:

Requiring Surgery:

There are various types of liposuction alternatives requiring surgery for example there is the combination of various cosmetic surgeries, the excision of lipomas, abdominoplasty (also called tummy tuck) and also breast reduction.

Dont Require Surgery:

The ones that don’t require surgery is the typical type of liposuction alternative that most are looking for. It’s less drastic than the surgery approach and in some cases can have similar results. Liposuction alternatives vary they could be as simple as helping the individual to accept there body and to stop looking for a quick fix. Other approaches include the seaweed wrap, body sculpturing or herbal creams and remedies or even enlisting a private trainer to help with exercise and diet.

It’s important to be wary of some liposuction alternatives though. They are not held to the same advertising regulations by the FDA as surgical liposuction is. This is were the problems start, because the FDA can not hold them to advertising regulations the treatments are not required to provide proof of the claims they make.

In addition to this while these liposuction alternatives may show some improvement, in many cases it’s been proved to only be short term.

What is Lyposuction?

February 26th, 2006

Liposuction has become an increasingly popular form of surgery in the past few years due to it’s drastic results. Many people swear by liposuction as the best methods to drop the pounds – fast.

But what is liposuction and are there liposuction alternatives?

Liposuction is a way to remove unwanted bulges, lumps and deposits of fat from the patients body. The fat is often removed for various reasons but for the majority of cases it’s because people are looking for a drastic amount of weight to be lost quickly or they are wanting liposuction to help rid of exercise resistant fat deposits that they just cant seem to get rid of.

There are two main types of fat, but liposuction only work on one. There is deep fat and superficial fat, liposuction only targets the deep fat as the needle used can cause damage to the skin if the liposuction surgeon targets the superficial layer. However some liposuction alternatives will target the superficial fat as it is the only viable option.

During the liposuction operation – which is often called a suction lipectomy or lipoplasty. During the procedure, the doctor will puncture the skin then insert a hollow needle into the deep fat layer. From here of the fat is sucked through the needle, then the incision in the skin is stitched up. That is a very basic description of what liposuction is, it is not as easy as made out and should only be carried out by a professional.

There are various types of liposuction nowadays, I’ve mentioned a few below:

  • Liposuction Surgery
  • Ultrasonic Liposuction
  • Liposuction Alternatives
  • Facial Liposuction
  • Laser Liposuction
